Shedding of the old skin allows for the new one to grow old. Snake moulting is a metaphor of renewal, which has led to the snake being a symbol of healing and medicine. Snakes shed their skin periodically throughout their lives. Without knowing we do it as well. My piece is a metaphor for the molting of my own skin occurring under the veil of silence where loneliness and fragility meet. It is about the change that shedding of the old implies. It is about taking away, pealing, ripping, and then assembling. I have chosen to work with lemon and tangerine skins, ripping each slice out of its pulp and sowing all the peaces into a transparent skin. The piece is made out of organic materials emphasizing ephemeral nature of life; of coming and going, of age and renewal.
